“Interesting people make interesting teachers. Dull teachers do nothing but teach.”

"More structure means greater freedom." (Margaret Bendall)

Teachers, especially those new to the profession or to the school, must leave space in the year for their personal lives. Planning should reduce stress, not add to it. There will always be some tension between the desire to give teachers freedom and the need for some departmental consistency. A well planned programme should not mean inflexibility but rather the reverse. Some strategies:
• consult the teacher in charge of that year level where appropriate
• consider the school calendar
• consult the scheme (the year programme guide)
• select and book appropriate texts
• consult the resource files, staff library and class set material
• consult with teachers in your option line where appropriate
